IndiGo expands market share, Jet Airways sees a drop in traffic in second quarter
According to data released by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Jet Airways ferried 39.52 lakh passengers in April to June period as against 41.94 lakh in January to March period. Its low cost airline, Jet Lite, although saw an increase from 6.18 lakh to 7.22 lakh in the same period.
India's leading private airline Jet Airways did not have a good second quarter ended June 30, 2016.
According to data released by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Jet Airways ferried 39.52 lakh passengers in April to June period as against 41.94 lakh in January to March period. Its low cost airline, Jet Lite, although saw an increase from 6.18 lakh to 7.22 lakh in the same period.
The data showed that Jet Airways also lost its market share in the given period from 18.2% to 16.1%. Jet Lite saw a marginal increase in its market share to 2.9% from 2.7%.
SpiceJet saw a decrease in its market share, at 12.7% in the second quarter from 13% in the quarter before. However, it carried 31.27 lakh passengers as against 29.93 lakh in the first quarter.
Go Air increased its market share to 8.3% and ferried 20.41 lakh passengers in second quarter from 18.71 lakh in the first three months of this calendar year.
IndiGo beat all other passengers by carried a mammoth 94.27 lakh passengers in the given second quarter and expanded its market share to 38.4%.
Tata and Singapore Airline's Vistara dropped its market share from 2.3% to 2.2% but ferried 6.31 lakh passengers as against 4.57 lakh in the first quarter.
