India’s domestic air traffic grew over 25% in January
Passengers carried by domestic airlines in January were 95.79 lakhs as per the data provided by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday.
“Passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan 2017 were 95.79 lakhs as against 76.55 lakhs during the corresponding period of previous year thereby registering a growth of 25.13%,” DGCA said.

However, the passenger load factor of scheduled flights remained slightly changed from December. DGCA said that this constancy was due to end of tourist season.

Domestic market share of top airlines in the country were as follows with IndiGo taking the lead at 39.8% followed by Jet Airways at 15.5%, then Air India (14.1%) and SpiceJet (12.8%).
On-Time Performance of scheduled domestic airlines at four metro cites was highest for SpiceJet at 71.6%, followed by IndiGo at 71.2% and Go Air at 60.6%.

Most of the flights that were delayed were due to reactionary reasons, which mostly comprise of check-in delays and baggage claim troubles by preceding flights.

Highest complaints received were passengers from Air India’s domestic flight which was 2.5 complaints per 10,000 passengers.
Most cancellations in the month were witnessed by budget carrier, Trujet, recording a total of 4.17% cancellation rate.
“The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of Jan 2017 has been 1.10%,” DGCA said.
