The Talegaon plant is a General Motors assembly and powertrain production facility located in Talegaon, Maharashtra, India. In 2017, the facility took over vehicle production from the GM India Halol plant, which was closed.
The Talegaon plant currently assembles Chevrolet Spark (legacy Daewoo Matiz), Chevrolet Beat (global-market Chevrolet Spark) and Chevrolet Sail sedan and Chevrolet Sail hatchback for Indian market.
The plant also produces propulsion systems for the vehicles it assembles.
The acquisition of Telegaon plant will help HMIL to strengthen its position in Indian market as Indian government has already been promoting the use of electric vehicles to reduce pollution and dependence on fossil fuels.
Earlier manufacturers like MG Motors, a British automotive company and Great Wall Motors, a Chinese privately owned automobile manufacturer had shown strong interest in GM's Talegaon plant. Infact, Great Wall Motors had signed a term sheet for a potential takeover of the Talegaon facility. However, the deal could not materialised.
The General Motors Company, an American multinational automotive manufacturing company, is the largest automaker in the United States. Currently, the company is exploring uses for ChatGPT as part of its broader collaboration with Microsoft Corp, according to a Reuters report citing company's executive.
The chatbot could be used to programme features like a garage door code or integrate schedules from a calendar, as well as obtain information on how to use vehicle capabilities typically contained in an owner's handbook.
