DK Sunil takes over as HAL CMD (additional charge)

In a significant development, Dr D K Sunil, Director (Engineering, Research and Development) at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), has taken over charge of the Chairman and Managing Director (additional charge) of the company, effective from September 1, 2024.

Dr Sunil, with a career spanning over three decades at the major defence company, brings a wealth of experience to the table. He has made contributions to various aspects of the company's operations, including design, production, quality enhancement, and customer support.

In his tenure, HAL has witnessed the development of new technologies like Radar Power supply, Voice Activated Control System, and Combined Interrogator Transponder, which have opened up new avenues for growth.

Sunil has succeeded CB Ananthakrishnan in this crucial role.

A visionary leader, Dr Sunil has been instrumental in forging partnerships with renowned institutions like IIT Kanpur and IIIT Hyderabad to leverage cutting-edge technologies. His strategic approach has strengthened the company's position in the aerospace industry and positioned it as a key player in the development of advanced technologies.

His expertise extends to various domains, including ground-breaking projects like Active ESA Radar, Automatic Flight Control System for Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), and Mission Computers for helicopter and fighter platforms. His contributions to the design and development of aircraft and helicopters have been instrumental in HAL's success.

Under his leadership, the defence company has obtained military certification for the HTT 40 aircraft program, securing pivotal projects like the Indigenous Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) and Utility Helicopter Maritime (UHM), and contributing to the advancement of wireless communication through his innovations.

Dr Sunil's expertise, leadership, and vision are expected to drive HAL towards even greater heights in the aerospace sector. He joined the company in 1987 as a Management Trainee, and now with over 37 years of experience held various roles, driving innovation, quality enhancement, and customer support.
