GVK MIAL expands its UDAN services between Mumbai-Belgaum to promote travel, tourism
GVK MIAL expressed confidence that with the new airline plying between the two cities will offer greater opportunities for first time travellers to explore places beyond their hometown.
In a bid to boost existing travel and tourism and to connect Mumbai to smaller airports like Belgaum, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, managed by GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) GVK MIAL, has commenced this new operation on the pattern of the government’s UDAN scheme. It will not only foster economic development through tourism and trade but would also accelerate growth with easy connectivity, affordability and employment, said a company statement. Notably, the service facilitated by Star Air will operate one flight between the two cities 4 days/week, that is from Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"Through the introduction of the airline and with added frequency between Mumbai and Belgaum, GVK MIAL is sure to help tourists plan their short weekend trips with direct and easy connectivity to and fro from the city boosting both trade as well as tourism," the statement said.
Furthermore, with SpiceJet’s existing operation and the inclusion of Star Air now, GVK MIAL ultimately aims at providing an unmatched travel experience to passengers from all walks of lives across all classes and budgets, it added.
Belgaum, an important cultural as well as commercial hub, is known as a popular tourist destination among nature lovers with rich military history, as it offers plenty of options for nature lovers like wildlife, waterfalls, and waterfronts along with trekking trails. Belgaum also has multiple ancient temples and historic forts, besides sharing borders between Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, it is a perfect balance of nature, history, and monuments.
While continuously providing world-class services to the passengers, GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) is stated to have catered to over 48.8 million passengers in FY2018-19 with 56% passengers from the domestic region, 23% of the international region and 21% through transfers.

It was awarded the mandate for operating and modernizing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai (CSMIA).
