Under the agreement, the conglomerate will be divided between two branches of the Godrej family: Godrej Industries Group (GIG) and Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG)

Adi Godrej (82) and his brother Nadir Godrej (73) will retain control of Godrej Industries Group (GIG), which includes a suite of listed companies such as Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet, and Astec Lifesciences. They will be joined by their immediate families in steering the group's future endeavors.

On the other side, cousins Jamshyd Godrej (75) and Smita Godrej Crishna (74) will take charge of Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG), comprising Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates. This branch will be spearheaded by Jamshyd Godrej as chairperson and managing director, with his niece Nyrika Holkar (42) serving as executive director. The families will retain control over this arm, which also boasts a substantial land bank, including prized property in Mumbai.

They will hold the land bank, which consists of 3,400 acres of prime Mumbai real estate, under the control of their families.

A key aspect of the realignment involves succession planning, with Pirojsha Godrej (42) set to assume the role of Executive Vice Chairperson of GIG and eventually succeed Nadir Godrej as Chairperson in August 2026.

This will help maximize strategic direction, focus, and agility, and will accelerate the process of creating long-term value for shareholders and all other stakeholders, according to a statement issued by the group.

"Both groups will continue to use the Godrej brand and are dedicated to expanding and strengthening their common history," it said.

The restructuring marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Godrej Group, which traces its origins back to 1897 when Ardeshir Godrej and his brother ventured into locksmithing. Over the decades, the conglomerate has evolved into a diversified powerhouse with interests ranging from soaps and home appliances to real estate and aerospace.

The decision to split the group reflects the differing visions of the Godrej family members while maintaining harmony and respect within the family. It underscores their commitment to preserving the legacy of innovation, trust, and community development that has been the hallmark of the Godrej brand for over a century.

"Since 1897, Godreį & Boyce has always been driven by the strong purpose of nation building," Jamshyd said.

"With this future-facing family agreement now in place, we can further drive our growth aspirations with fewer complexities and focus on leveraging our core strengths in high tech engineering and design-led innovation across our strong portfolio of strategic, consumer and emerging businesses," he added.

"Godreį was founded in 1897 to help build economic independence for India. This deep purpose of innovating for a cause - the values of trust and respect and the belief in trusteeship and making communities that the companies operate in stronger and better - continue to form the bedrock of who we are 125 years later." Nadir expressed. Nadir further says, we look forward to building on this legacy with focus and agility.
