Food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy hike platform fees again
Currently being charged in Delhi and Bengaluru, the platform fee is different from delivery fee, goods and services tax (GST), restaurant charges and handling charges.
Food delivery platforms Zomato and Swiggy have once again increased their platform fees, raising them to Rs 6 per order from the previous Rs 5, marking a 20 percent hike.
Currently, this fee is being charged in Delhi and Bengaluru. It is distinct from delivery fees, goods and services tax (GST), restaurant charges, and handling charges.
This higher platform fee will soon be implemented in other cities as well.
The platform fee is intended to help food aggregators control costs and increase revenues.
In April, Zomato raised its platform fee by 25 percent to Rs 5 per order. Zomato initially introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 in August last year, later increasing it to Rs 3 to improve margins and achieve profitability.
The food delivery platforms aim to generate Rs 1.25-1.5 crore per day through this platform fee.
