Bird flu unlikely to spread majorly in India, says Hester Biosciences CEO & MD Rajiv Gandhi; sales of immunity vaccines to go up
Anil Singhvi speaks to Rajiv Gandhi, CEO & MD at Hester Biosciences to know about the impact of Bird flu on Indian poultry business, company's business model and his own business.
The outbreak of bird flu seems to be increasing a bit in the world. First in Europe then Asia and now some cases are appearing in India also. Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi speaks to Rajiv Gandhi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Managing Director (MD) at Hester Biosciences to know about the impact of Bird flu on Indian poultry business, company's business model and his own business.
Gandhi shared his views on the domestic business in a popular TV show ‘News Par Views', where he said that bird flu is not expected to increase much in India. However, the demand for immunity vaccine will definitely increase, he said indication that the impact on his business would likely be positive.
Bird flu, according to the CEO, is a disease that returns after a period of time, rises, and then declines. However, producing the bird flu vaccine in India is prohibited. There is presently no bird flu vaccination available.
In this instance, if all other diseases are well protected and vaccinated, the impact of bird flu on poultry will be minimal, he explained.
Even now, discussion of bird flu is everywhere, but the disease is limited to a small region of the Thane district, so I don't think it's expected to spread much, Gandhi said, and even if it does, its effect will be mitigated to a large extent with adequate vaccination.
Taking about company sales, MD said that anytime bird flu strikes, the need for immunity-boosting vaccinations rises, which boosts the company's sales. If noticed, everything was down last year owing to covid, but the company's sales were really high due to the entrance of bird flu, and there is still a potential that sales will climb this year as well.
Hester Biosciences Limited is one of India’s leading animal healthcare companies and is the second largest poultry vaccine manufacturer in the country. The firm mainly engages in producing vaccines against diseases of animals like poultry, cattle, sheep goats, and swain species.
This company has around 30-35% market share of Poultry in India and the effect of Poultry Vaccines is around 65-70% even in the total sales.
