McDonald's is all set to mint a new Mac currency in order to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Big Mac this year. Customers who buy a Big Mac will be given a MacCoin, which can be later redeemed for a free sandwich at other outlets that are participating in the celebrations.
McDonald's franchise owner Jim Delligatti had originally created the Big Mac, which is made of two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions in Pennsylvania in 1967 and it has been a perennial favourite since then.
There will be five different kinds of MacCoin, which will be given to customers. These MacCoins will represent the five decades of the burger. The first one will feature the period of ‘flower power’ in the years it was first made. The second one will feature the 1980's pop art, bold and abstract shapes like Mario
Lopez’s favourite A.C. Slater pants from the 1990s will be described on the third and the fourth. And the last MacCoin will represent the tech boom and will be decorated with emojis.

MacDonald's will start distributing the coins starting from August 2 and customers can redeem the same from 3rd August. Across 50 countries, more than 6.2 million MacCoins will be distributed which can be redeemed throughout the year.
Ever since Jim Delligatti invented Big Mac, the recipe has remained unchanged. However, due to beef patties inside, the Big Mac is not sold in India.
