Bharti Airtel is not just a telecom giant, but is slowly making headway into broadcast too. Going by its latest release, the telecom service provider added over 50 million Android users on Airtel TV app as it takes on Reliance Jio's JioTV app. "More than 50 million Android device users have downloaded our direct-broadcast satellite service Airtel TV," announced Bharti Airtel in a press release on Thursday.

The app currently offers over 375 LIVE TV channels along with over 10,000 movies and popular shows.

"We are thrilled at achieving this milestone and being able to scale-up the app so rapidly," Sameer Batra, CEO-Content and Apps, Bharti Airtel, said in a statement.

Airtel TV has also partnered with content-providers such as Eros Now, SonyLIV, HOOQ, Hotstar, Amazon and AltBalaji.

"We will continue to expand our content partnerships and bring more exciting innovations to our users," Batra added.

According to "App Annie", an app ranking, analytics and market intelligence platform, Airtel TV app was amongst the most-downloaded video over-the-top (OTT)-content providing apps in India between January and May 2018.

Airtel prepaid and postpaid customers can easily download the Airtel TV app to watch free live TV. All they have to do is register using Airtel's mobile Internet to activate the free subscription. It is to be noted, however, that data charges will apply. 

One of the notable features of Airtel TV app is users can  use a single login to access content on up to 5 devices. The app allows users to filter catalogue by language, genre, and channel.
