Mittal's remuneration has returned to this level after nearly three years. Previously, the Human Resources and Nomination Committee (HRC) had reduced his salary effective April 1, 2020. However, following significant business growth and strong performance by the telecom company, the HRC reconsidered its decision, acknowledging the chairman's role and contributions.

In August 2023, Airtel shareholders approved this change during the company's extraordinary general meeting (AGM). Consequently, Mittal's total remuneration for the financial year 2023-24 reached around Rs 32 crore. The company's latest annual report indicates that his salary and allowances amounted to approximately Rs 21.57 crore, with a performance-linked incentive (PLI) of Rs 7.5 crore. Additional benefits of Rs 3.19 crore were also included in his remuneration.
