India’s telecom major, Bharti Airtel on Thursday said that it has been rated as ‘India’s fastest network’ by the broadband testing and web-based network diagnostic applications – Ookla.

“Airtel has been making significant investments towards building a ‘future ready’ network under Project Leap, its national network transformation initiative. Ookla’s findings are yet another testimony to Airtel’s endeavour to delight customers with best-in-class mobile experience across technology platforms and devices,” Airtel said.

In the data provided by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) till December 2016, it showed that Reliance Jio provided its users with faster 4G speeds.

In TRAI’s ‘MySpeed’ portal, when you enter Reliance Jio in the operator section of the speed test portal, the ‘download’ speed presented comes to 16.3 Mbps, the highest among the incumbents; while, Airtel’s download speed showed 5.47 Mbps.

Vodafone showed a download speed of 6.5 Mbps and Idea was at 5.76 Mbps. Vodafone ranked second after RJio and Idea ranked third according to the TRAI data.

Airtel maintained that it has been rated as the fastest mobile network in India even in the latest speed tests published by TRAI.

“This latest recognition, furthers cements Airtel’s position as India’s best smartphone network that consistently enables a superior online experience for customers,” Airtel said.

The company claimed that Ookla’s findings were based on analysis of millions of internet speed tests logged on ‘modern devices’ by mobile customers across India using its popular Speedtest app. The results include all mobile tests, regardless of connection technology.

Commenting on its success, Ajai Puri, Director, Operations (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel said, “We are delighted to receive this recognition from a global leader like Ookla and it is yet another validation of our efforts to build a world-class smartphone network.”

The company has also recently announced the launch of its ‘My Infinity Plans’ that have been put in place to match new comer – Reliance Jio’s tariff plans.
