Air India's international passengers will have a new experience as the airline will reportedly introduce variety of cuisines and new uniforms for crew soon. The national carrier is going to introduce 'Maharaja' business class seats on June 22. Air India's plan to provide revamped products and services to the international passengers after the government put on hold its disinvestment plans for the loss-making carrier.
"The airline would launch a revamped Maharaja business class," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha was quoted as telling reporters. On its Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft fleet, existing first class and business class seats would be revamped for the Maharaja business class seats, according to PTI. These upgrade will be done on short and long-haul planes on international routes.
Under the plan, the makeover exercise reportedly would involve revamping section of first class and business class with better ambience, upholstery, other amenities and night kits. The airline will also introduce variety cuisines and new uniforms for crew. "The objective of the revamping exercise is to bring about the much needed change in the airline, make it more customer-focussed with enviable service," one of the officials reportedly said.

The move was mooted to earn more revenues by attracting more passengers on its international flights. Currently, Air India has 17 per cent market share on international routes. The national carrier has over 2,500 global prime-time slots per week in 43 overseas destinations and holds 17 per cent market share. The airline's crew would wear new uniform on Boeing aircraft flying on the overseas routes.
