Top 10 safest cars in India rated by Global NCAP; This new entry secures perfect score
Before buying a car, it is crucial to know which car is safer for you and your family. But then how to identify which car has the maximum safety features? There are few cars in India that have been rated 5 and 4 stars in terms of their safety standards. Global NCAP, an international company doing crash tests, has given this rating to these Indian cars. Let us know which are these cars with 5 stars ratings.
Tata Punch: 5-star Rating
The Tata Punch has achieved a five-star rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection in Global NCAP’s latest #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests. The Tata Punch was tested in the most basic safety specification, fitted with two airbags, ABS brakes and ISOFIX anchorages. The Punch can be improved by equipping the model with standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side head impact protection systems as standard, and 3 point belts in all seating positions. It is important to highlight once again Tata’s decision to install both child occupant’s as rearward facing, demonstrating that this position offers the best safety option as both child dummies received good protection.
Tata Tigor EV: 4-Star Rating
The Tata Tigor EV, the first Electric Vehicle (EV) ever tested by Global NCAP achieved four stars for both adult and child occupants in the latest #SaferCarsForIndia crash test. The recently launched Tata Tigor EV was assessed in its most basic safety specification, fitted with two airbags as standard. Further improvement could be made to the Tigor rating by equipping the model with standard fitment of Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side-impact protection, 3 point belts in all seating positions and ISOFIX connectors.
Renault Triber: 4-Star Rating
The Renault Triber has achieved an encouraging four-star rating for adult occupants and three stars for child occupants in Global NCAP’s latest round of #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests. Renault’s new compact crossover was tested in its most basic safety specification, with two airbags. The Triber showed significant improvements from previous Renault models tested by Global NCAP.
Mahindra Thar: 4-Star Rating
The Mahindra Thar has achieved an encouraging four-star rating for both adult and child occupants in Global NCAP’s new round of #SaferCarsForIndia crash tests. The recently launched Mahindra Thar was tested in its basic safety specification, two airbags, and reached 4 stars for adult and child occupants. The Thar also meets the side impact UN 95 regulation. Global NCAP tested Thar’s ESC according to UN regulation. ESC is not fitted as standard on the Thar and although the model met minimum regulatory requirements, the car showed an unstable dynamic behaviour. Global NCAP recommends a review and improvement.
Mahindra XUV300: 5-star Rating
The Mahindra XUV300 has achieved Global NCAP’s first-ever ‘Safer Choice’ Award, an accolade only available to automakers achieving the highest levels of safety performance for cars sold in India. Last month the XUV300 achieved a five-star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection and four stars for child occupant protection. It was the highest combined occupant safety rating of any car tested in Global NCAP’s #SaferCarsForIndia campaign to date. Mahindra have since submitted the XUV300 for further Global NCAP conformity tests, with the model meeting both pedestrian protection and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) ‘Safer Choice’ Award requirements.
Tata Tigor/Tiago: 4-Star Rating
The TATA Tigor/Tiago achieves four stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection, as per Global NCAP. This result follows the recent five-star achievement of the TATA Altroz and the previous five-star result for the TATA Nexon. Global NCAP chose the entry-level version of this model.
Tata Altroz: 5-Star Rating
Tata Nexon: 5-star Rating
Following recent four-star safety announcements, the Tata Nexon becomes the first made in India, sold in India car to achieve Global NCAP’s coveted five-star crash test rating. The Mahindra Marazzo also does well, achieving a four-star result. The Tata Nexon scored five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection. Following the Nexon’s four-star result earlier this year Tata has improved a number of safety features including making a Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) for driver and passenger a standard for all variants of the model. In addition the Nexon was required to pass a side impact test meeting UN95 side impact protection requirements.
Mahindra Marazzo: 4-Star Rating
The Mahindra Marazzo with standard double airbags, ABS, SBR for driver and ISOFIX anchorages, reached four stars in Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant Protection. The model offers good protection for both the adult head and neck, marginal protection for the driver's chest, and adequate protection for the passenger's chest. The pedals showed some risk for the lower legs due to their displacement. The 18-month-old child dummy received good protection while the 3 year old child passenger showed high readings in chest and head exposure.
