American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson`s first electric motorcycle "LiveWire" equipped with Samsung SDI Co.`s battery pack, was unveiled during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on Tuesday. Harley-Davidson and Samsung SDI had collaborated for the electric motorcycle project over four years ago to target tech-savvy, premium consumers, Yonhap news agency reported. The electric motorcycle runs on a battery pack, comprising lithium-ion cells made by Samsung SDI.
LiveWire`s range is approximately 180 km, and it can do zero to 100 kph in just 3.5 seconds, Samsung SDI claimed. Two exclusive paint colors (Yellow Fuse and Orange Fuse) are unlike anything else in the H-D palette. They are finished to give the look of anodized metal. The LiveWire is also available in vivid black. Image source: harley-davidson.com
The permanent magnet electric motor can produce 100 per cent of its rated torque instantly. In a bid to lower the center of gravity for easier handling, the electric motor is placed below the battery.
The lightweight cast aluminum frame is extremely rigid, and contributes to the precise, responsive handling. Image source: harley-davidson.com
The bike also features a 4.3 inch, full-colour, liquid-crystal, touchscreen display that keeps the rider constantly up-to-date on the speed, range and battery status. The rider can even customise it even more with information like music, turn-by-turn navigation, alert information and more. Image source: harley-davidson.com
