Tesla, which has near-monopoly in luxury electrics is set to face stiff competition from some awe inspiring luxury electric vehicles. Tata Motors arm Jaguar has introduced its first electric model, the I-Pace sport utility vehicle (SUV) and then there are some eye-popping options from Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volvo that are set to hit the road over the next 12 months. Here are the expected launches in the luxury car market:
Tesla
Tesla is one of the foremost companies that specialises in electric car manufacturing. Tesla is now working on a new electric motor upgrade for Model S and Model X with a more efficient permanent magnet reluctance system based on the motor Tesla developed for Model 3. With Model S priced at $85,000 and Model X varies between US$132,000 and US$144,000, Tesla has been using AC induction electric motors for years, but the company switched to permanent magnet electric motors when introducing the Model 3 back in 2017. Jaguar I-PACE Electric SUV
Jaguar I-PACE is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 400PS and 696Nm and is available with a single 90kWh battery. Featuring an elegant, highly aerodynamic design with a low drag coefficient of 0.29Cd, I-PACE has been created to provide efficiency by slicing cleanly through the air for maximum range and stability. Audi E-Tron SUV:
Audi is collaborating with Amazon to make your home charging station set up as easy as possible. The e-Tron SUV includes a home charging capsule that can fully charge its battery in about 9 hours from a 240 volt/50 amp outlet. Towing Capacity with available package 4,000 lbs. Mercedes EQC SUV:
The EQC will come with Mercedes’s new all-digital MBUX touch screen. It responds to voice, touch and hand gestures, recognizing whether the driver or passenger is making a request, calculating routes based on available charge and preheating the interior. Mercedes’s EQC will accelerate from zero to 60 in 4.9 seconds, Jaguar’s I-Pace in 4.5 seconds and Porsche’s Taycan in less than 3.5 seconds. Porsche Taycan sports car
Porsche Taycan is about to enter into series production. The company's first purely electrically driven sports car is currently in its final test drives. Porsche is conducting comprehensive tests for Taycan in 30 countries around the globe. Porsche Taycan accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 3.5 seconds. The 800-V architecture in the vehicle guarantees that the lithium-ion battery can be recharged in just four minutes, providing enough energy to drive 100 kilometres.
