Year Ender 2022: From Tata Tiago, Volvo XC40 Recharge to Kia EV6 and Mercedes-Benz EQB, here are top EVs launched in the year 2022.
Year Ender 2022: The year 2022 is about to end and the world is gearing up for 2023. And the year 2022 will belong to electric vehicles as many automobile companies introduced their latest EVs in India this year. Some of these path-breaking electric vehicles were affordable, while others more suited to the luxury segment.
The trend for new EV launches will continue in 2023. However, here we take a look back at the most significant EV launches of 2022.
From Tata Tiago, Volvo XC40 Recharge to Kia EV6 and Mercedes-Benz EQB, here are top EVs launched in the year 2022:
Tata Nexon EV Max
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility launched the Nexon EV MAX on May 11 at a starting price of Rs 17.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The car supports a faster charging time of 0 – 80% in just 56 mins from any 50 kW DC fast charger. It produces 105 kW (143 PS) of power and delivers an instant torque of 250 Nm available at push of the pedal, resulting in 0 to 100 sprint times in under 9 secs. The Tata Nexon EV MAX has multiple new features like ventilated seats, electronic parking brake, cruise control, wireless charger, among others.
Kia EV6
Kia India launched its fully electric vehicle EV6 in the country on June 2. With the launch of EV6, the company forayed into the electric vehicle segment in India. The starting price of the Kia EV6 is Rs 59.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The model has a wide electric sunroof and is available in two trims -- GT-Line (Ex-Showroom Prices Rs 59.95 lakhs) and GT-Line AWD (Ex-Showroom Prices Rs 64.95 lakhs).
Tata Nexon EV Jet Edition
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited launched the Jet Edition of Nexon EV on September 2 at a starting price of Rs 17.50 lakh. The new edition is available in two variants - Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV Prime. With unique starlight exterior, the car has a dual-tone color - a combination of an earthy bronze body and a platinum silver roof. The Nexon EV Prime is equipped with luxury features like electric sunroof, multi-mode regen, i-TPMS, smart watch integration, fortified cabin and more. Whereas Nexon EV Max has jeweled control knob, cruise control, front ventilated seat, EPB and auto vehicle hold (AVH), i-TPMS, air purifier, wireless smartphone charger, electric sunroof, auto dimming IRVM and more.
Volvo XC40 Recharge
Volvo Car India had launched its pure electric SUV XC40 Recharge in July at a price tag of Rs 55.9 lakh (ex-showroom). The model comes with a range of over 400 km on a single charge and generates 408 hp of power. The XC40 has features like an advanced air purifier system that prevents up to 80 percent of hazardous PM 2.5 particles from entering the cabin, app remote services, advanced driver assistance technology, and much more.

Tata Tiago EV
Domestic automaker Tata Motors launched the Tata Tiago EV on September 28 at an introductory price of Rs 8.49 lakh. It is s available in the Medium range and Long range trims. The vehicle has 7 variants - XE MR, XT MR, XT LR, XZ + LR, XZ + Tech Lux LR, XZ+ LR (7.2 kWh) and XZ+ Tech Lux LR (7.2 kWh). The EV covers a range of 315 km in a single charge. Also, it has multiple charging options. The car comes equipped with features like 17.78 cm touchscreen infotainment by HARMAN, ABS with EBD, reverse camera, dual front airbags, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, Zconnect, premium leatherette seat and much more.
BYD Atto 3
Automotive Company BYD announced the price of the electric vehicle BYD Atto 3 on November 14. The car is available at a price tag of Rs 33.99 lakhs (Ex-showroom) across India. The EV is equipped with the ultra-safe Blade Battery and features fast charging from 0% to 80% in 50 minutes. The car has a range of 521 km according to ARAI tests, with a battery capacity of 60.48kWh. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/hr in 7.3 seconds.
Tata Tigor EV Sedan
The new Tigor.ev sedan launched on November 23 at a starting price of Rs 12.49 lakhs (ex-showroom). With an extended range of 315 km (ARAI certified), the vehicle is available in three stunning colours and 4 variants. These variants are XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux. Tigor.ev is powered by a 26-kWh liquid-cooled, high-energy density IP67 rated battery pack and motor to make it weather and worry-proof. The car delivers a peak power output of 55 kW and a peak torque of 170 Nm.
Mercedes-Benz EQB
Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India launched the fully electric EV - Mercedes Benz EQB - on December 2 at a price of Rs 74.5 lakh. It is a seven-seater sports utility vehicle with a range of upto 418 kms and an MBUX Multimedia system. With powerful electric motors and high-voltage lithium-ion battery, the EQB claims to deliver power of 168 kW and 390 Nm at rpm. Also, the EV covers a range of upto 418 kms on a single charge. The car can go from 0-100km/hr in just 8 seconds.

BMW i4
The luxury carmaker BMW launched the electric car BMW i4 on May 26 at an ex-showroom price of Rs 69.90 lakh. It has the fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology with an integrated drive unit powered by an electric motor, single-speed transmission, and power electronics. The i4 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 5.7 seconds with an output of 340 hp. It has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 80.7 kilowatt-hours.
