Want to buy Maruti Suzuki Ignis diesel? Well, you cant; this is why

Maruti Suzuki's cars have been among the most popular passenger vehicles in the country and the company has always left other competitors far behind as far as sales figures are concerned due to variants like Alto, Celerio, Swift and Dzire. However, there are a few cars that have not met the expectations and one such exception looks to be the Ignis diesel variant. Its production has been discontinued, said NDTV. 
 
When asked by dealers across the country, their answer to NDTV reportedly was that production of Ignis diesel variant has indeed been stopped. One such dealer in Mumbai told channel, "We are not taking any bookings for the Ignis diesel model and this is essentially because of the low demand of the car with that fuel type."
 
Another in Chennai reportedly stated, "The diesel version of the Ignis costs close to 8 lakhs and that's a lot of money for a small diesel car. Hence, more customers are opting for the petrol variant as it has all the features," adding "We do not know yet, if the Ignis has been discontinued temporarily. We have approached Maruti Suzuki for a comment but have not received any communication from the car maker yet."
 
Notably, Ignis was launched in January 2017 and since then has been selling 4000 units on an average, but the sales were dipped lately reportedly due to new-gen cars like the Swift and Dzire being launched in quick succession. 
 
On the other hand, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift has earned the distinction of becoming India’s favourite hatchback attaining a milestone of one-lakh unit sales in just 145 days. This is the fastest 100,000 units for any car in India, said Maruti Suzuki's official statement.

Since its launch in 2005, Maruti Suzuki Swift car has sold over 1.89 million units in India. By sheer coincidence Maruti’s 20 millionth vehicle produced in India was also a Swift.
