Swedish vehicle manufacturer, Volvo launched its latest small SUV, the XC40, in India at an introductory price of Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). XC40 will initially be available in a single variant, the R-Design and the booking amount for this SUV is Rs 5 lakh. The company has already started taking orders.

Volvo’s XC40 has been powered with the familiar 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel (D4) engine. The peak torque is 190hp and 400Nm to all-four-wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The carmaker said that it would consider offering the petrol engine variant if there is a shift in the consumer preference.

The SUV has been equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, wireless mobile phone charging, a 750-watt 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Volvo's 9.0-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, and heated front and rear seats.

The XC40 also comes with advanced safety kit in the form of lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, emergency braking, ESP, traction control, hill descent control and eight airbags.

Thanks to Volvo for keeping the car at the lower end of the luxury segment, and this will attract more youth customers and the company is also expected to have a new set of customers with its latest SUV.  XC40 is expected to be a key contributor to expanding the Volvo’s sales in India. the carmaker aims to double its market share in the country to 10 per cent by 2020.
