The slowdown is receding and bike-makers, including the iconic Royal Enfield, are seeing their sales tick up, even if that is happening in a gradual manner. With festival season looming, things are likely to improve further.

In the month of September, motorcycle market leader Royal Enfield posted a one per cent increase in its total sales at 60,041 units - its domestic sales saw a growth of two percent, Royal Enfield revealed in a statement.  

Royal Enfield had sold a total of 59,500 units in the corresponding month last year, while its domestic sales were at 55,910 units in September as against 54,858 units in the same month last year, it said.

Exports were, however, down by 11 per cent to 4,131 units as compared to 4,642 units in the year-ago month, the company added.  

In the two-wheeler segment, Hero MotoCorp reported a 16.9 per cent increase in sales last month at 7,15,718 units as compared to 6,12,204 units in September 2019.

Similarly, Bajaj Auto saw 20 per cent jump in total sales in September at 4,04,851 units as compared to 3,36,730 units in the same month last year. 

Chennai-based TVS Motor Co said its total two-wheeler sales during the month stood at 3,13,332 units as against 3,00,793 units in September 2019, up 4.16 per cent. 

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India also reported a 8.48 per cent increase in total sales at 5,26,865 units in September as compared to 4,85,663 units in the same month last year.

"While the sustained uptick in customer sentiments has boosted the confidence of our network on ground, Honda will cautiously monitor inventory levels in the run up to festivals," HMSI director, sales & marketing, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said.
