Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)’s latest offering—the NuvoSport—has seen a sales decline of 33% in May.

The car succeeded M&M’s Quanto and looks similar in more ways than one. Only if customer interest could be one of them. According to the data provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the car sold 1,298 units in March 2016 but sales fell soon after. In April it sold only 553 units, falling further to just 371 units in May.

Quanto’s sales, too, dwindled by the end of its lifecycle.

It recorded single-digit sales for 5 months starting from October 2015 to March 2016, with the only exception being February 2016 were it sold 123 units.

In October 2015, Quanto sold 3 units and only 2 units in November 2015.

M&M has been quite confident about NuvoSport and expected it to emerge as “another winner from their stable,” as put by Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive, Mahindra & Mahindra in a dna report.

The company has also, with NuvoSport, departed from its nomenclature style of ending its car names with an 'O'. Read more.

Apart from Thar and NuvoSport, all other cars by M&M follow a distinct naming style.

See for instance—Scorpio, Quanto, Verito, e2o, Bolero, Xylo – even the relatively new Mahindra, the TUV 3OO, XUV 5OO actually has two 'O's in their names.
