Maruti Suzuki to soon launch next-generation Swift; Bookings now open
The New Maruti Swift offers an evolutionary design, maintaining its iconic silhouette while incorporating contemporary elements.
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the much-anticipated launch of the all-new Swift in India, slated for May 9. The automaker has tantalised enthusiasts with a sneak peek at the upcoming model, which promises to uphold the Swift's legacy of being a beloved hatchback. Notably, bookings for the latest iteration have commenced, with eager customers able to secure their spot with a token payment of Rs 11,000, either online or at authorised dealerships.
Design and enhanced features
The forthcoming Swift offers an evolutionary design, maintaining its iconic silhouette while incorporating contemporary elements. Emphasising its Indian identity, the India-spec Swift will sport unique bumpers and alloy wheels, contributing to its distinctive appeal. While slightly elongated, the new model retains its agility with a narrower frame, ensuring a seamless driving experience reminiscent of its predecessor.
Inside the cabin, the Swift welcomes occupants with a refreshed interior, drawing inspiration from Maruti's premium offerings like the Baleno and Fronx. Familiar yet refined, the dashboard features subtle modifications, complemented by a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and ergonomic toggle switches. Safety takes center stage with the potential inclusion of six airbags and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), setting a new standard for hatchback safety.
Power and performance
Excitement surrounds the Swift's revamped powertrain, which introduces an all-new 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Designed to meet stringent fuel efficiency targets, the engine promises comparable power and torque outputs to its predecessor, the K12 four-cylinder unit. Additionally, prospects of mild-hybrid technology further enhance the vehicle's efficiency and eco-friendliness. Enthusiasts await confirmation on transmission options, speculating whether Maruti will retain the AMT or introduce a sophisticated 6-speed torque converter, aligning with other models in its lineup.
Upon its debut, the new Swift aims to maintain its competitive edge, challenging contenders like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, the Tata Tiago, and the Citroen C3. With anticipated upgrades and enhancements, the new model is likely to command a slight premium over its predecessor's price range of Rs 6.24 lakh-8.83 lakh (ex-showroom).
