Carmakers in India, including Tata Motors, Hyundai, Volkswagen are reporting stellar sales for October on the back of new model launches.

Maruti Suzuki, for instance, saw a 90.9% growth in utility vehicle (UV) sales in October on the back of the Vitara Brezza sales. UV sales grew to 18,008 units from 9,435 units in the corresponding month last year. This was despite the company reporting a decline of 5.2% in overall sales during the month.

Volkswagen said that its sales shot up by 70% in October 2016 as the company launched 'made-for-India' Ameo is the reason for the this high growth in sales during the festive period. The company's car sales grew to 5534 units as compared to 3255 units sold in the corresponding month of the previous year.

Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We welcomed the festive cheer with the launch of Volkswagen’s made-for-India and made-in-India Ameo Diesel, expanding our product portfolio to a wider audience. We are confident in continuing to improve our performance in sales and service, in the coming months along with exciting new products on the anvil.”

Tata Motors reported a 21% growth in sales during the festive month as sales grew to 52,913 units from 43,486 units sold in October 2015. The company said that strong demand for the recently launched Tata Tiago was the reason pushing the growth in sales.

“The passenger car sales continued its growth momentum due to strong demand for the recently launched Tata Tiago with retail showing an increasing trend. Cumulative sales growth of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market, were 88,976 units, a growth of 15%, compared to 77,465 units, in October 2015,” the company said.

Hyundai Motor India reported a 6.4% growth in October and saw an overwhelming response for the all new Elentra. The domestic sales volume grew to 50,016 units during the month.

“The recently launched All New Elantra, received an overwhelming response with 1,509 bookings resulting in 4-5 months waiting period, we thank our customers for showing confidence in Brand Hyundai,” said Y K Koo, MD & CEO Hyundai Motor India Ltd.
