Mercedes-Benz inaugurates first German charging hub in Mannheim
Mercedes-Benzs global charging network is rapidly expanding, with Mannheim being the fourth station in operation worldwide.
Mercedes-Benz officially opened its first proprietary German charging hub in Mannheim on Monday, November 27. The company aims to establish over 2,000 of its charging stations globally, equipped with more than 10,000 fast-charging points by the end of the decade.
At the Mannheim hub, six charging points, each boasting an output of 300 kW, are now operational, allowing electric vehicle owners to charge their cars and vans rapidly. The singular port design ensures maximum energy efficiency, enabling certain electric vehicle models to achieve a charging capacity of 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes.
The Charging Hubs are open to vehicles of all sizes, irrespective of the brand, and Mercedes-Benz customers enjoy exclusive benefits, including a welcome introductory rate and complimentary charging during the initial months via the Mercedes me Charge charging service.
Mercedes-Benz's global charging network is rapidly expanding, with Mannheim being the fourth station in operation worldwide. More stations are set to be launched by the end of the year, including in the U.S. and China, and additional locations in Germany, Italy, Spain, and France by 2024.
To ensure a top-notch charging experience, Mercedes-Benz has strategically partnered with E.ON in Europe. The partnership will cover site selection, planning, construction, operation, and accompanying services, incorporating smart solutions such as predictive maintenance based on artificial intelligence, states the company.
Mercedes-Benz claims that its charging hubs are integrated into the Mercedes me Charge digital charging network, providing a user-friendly experience for customers. The barrier-free location in Mannheim offers generously sized parking spaces, drive-through options, and photovoltaic elements for renewable energy production.
Customers benefit from a range of advantages, including a reservation function, authentication via the MBUX multimedia system, and flexible charging tariffs.
The expansion of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network aligns with the company's broader strategy to contribute to the development of a comprehensive charging infrastructure, focusing on customer convenience and the electrification of the automotive industry, according to the company.
