The micro SUV will retail from Mauri Suzuki's premium NEXA dealerships, joining the S-Cross and the Baleno already stationed there. The Ignis is likely to be priced in the range of Rs 5-7 lakh.

The Ignis will take its place in the car market alongside the Renault Kwid and Mahindra KUV100, populating the new micro-SUV segment that has been gaining popularity recently.

The Ignis is based on a new platform from Maruti Suzuki which the carmaker claims will make the vehicle lighter, stronger, more fuel efficient, and safer. It will draw power from the same engines as in the Swift and the Baleno.

The petrol engine will be a 1197cc VVT engine that dishes out 82PS of power and 113Nm torque. The carmaker says the Ignis has a claimed mileage of 20.89km per litre. The diesel motor will be the 1248cc DDiS engine which gives 75PS power and 190Nm of torque. It has a claimed mileage of 26.80 km per hour.

The Ignis will be available in both manual and automatic transmissions across the petrol and diesel variants. It will be equipped with ABS with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution) systems for safety at higher speeds.

However, if the car is prices at the Rs 5 – 7 lakh price range it could face tough competition from the Kwid which is priced significantly lower at Rs 2.71 lakh to Rs 3.67 lakh and KUV100 which is between Rs 4.58 – 7.16 lakh.
