Recording a marginal decline, India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported a total sale of 148,682 units in February 2019, including 139,100 units in domestic market and 9,582 units of exports. The company had sold 1,49,824 units in February last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in an official statement. The domestic sales of the company were up marginally at 1,39,100 units last month as against 1,37,900 units in the year-ago month, the statement said. In the Mini and Compact sub-segment, the leading carmaker sold 97,429 vehicles which was 1.6% less than the corresponding sales figure of February 2019 (99,002). In the mid-size passengers' cars segment, Maruti Suzuki sold 100,513 cars. In February 2018, the sales number for this category was 103,899.

While the Mini segment includes models like Alto, Old Wagon R, the compact segment includes New Wagon R, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire. 

The company clarifies in the statement, "Effective February 2019, sales of new WagonR (full model change, now also with bigger engine and increased length) are reported under the compact sub-segment. The sales number of old WagonR (now discontinued) are, however, reported in the mini sub-segment. Sales numbers for the mini and compact sub-segment may be viewed in this context."

The total domestic passenger vehicles sales last month was 136,912 units, 0.2% less than the corresponding month last year.

Maruti Suzuki sold 24,751 units of mini cars like Alto. In the same month last year, this number was 33,789 units. The sales of Maruti Suzuki utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, have gone up by 7.4 per cent at 21,834 units as compared to 20,324 units in the year-ago month, the company said.
