Those who had already booked the new Mahindra Thar till November 30 will be charged the introductory price of the vehicle. The new Mahindra Thar was launched in India on October 2 with a starting price of ₹9.8 lakh (ex-showroom) for its AX variant.

Currently, Thar’s higher-spec LX trim is priced between Rs 12.49-13.75 lakh. The automaker had recently delisted some of the entry-level AX variants, implying the cheapest Thar trim available is the AX optional petrol-manual, priced at Rs 11.90 lakh.

Mahindra’s all-new Thar has clocked whooping 20,000 bookings in just a month of its launch, while the vehicle manufacturer intends to ramp up the Thar’s production from 2,000 units a month to 3,000 units. Its waiting periods is currently 36 weeks for almost all variants.

Its huge demand could be also attributed to the fact that Mahindra Thar doesn’t have any direct rival in its segment as of yet. However, this is all set to change in 2021, with the next-gen Force Gurkha and 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny slated to be introduced to the Indian market next year.

Mahindra Thar comes in both petrol and diesel engine versions. Its petrol engine is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol that produces 152hp and 300Nm of torque.

As far as its diesel engine version is concerned, it offers a maximum power output of 130 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque.

With its dashing masculine look, the all-new Mahindra Thar has gotten successful among people even before the crash test ratings were announced. It recently received a four-star safety rating from Global NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection.
