No Registration Fees on Hybrid Cars in UP: To reduce petrol consumption and protect the environment, the central and state governments are taking various steps. In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major relief for hybrid car buyers in the state. Effective July 5, the state government has waived registration fees for hybrid cars. This will result in considerable savings for people purchasing hybrid cars in Uttar Pradesh.

The UP government has introduced this waiver to promote eco-friendly vehicles in the state. The waiver will benefit customers of Maruti, Honda, and Toyota, with estimated savings of up to Rs 3.50 lakh. This new rule is already in effect as of July 5.

Fees Levied on Vehicles in UP

An 8% road tax is levied on vehicles costing less than Rs 10 lakhs, while a 10% road tax is applied to vehicles costing more than Rs 10 lakhs. 

UP Retail Sales

UP is one of the largest markets for retail sales in the passenger vehicle sector. In the first half of 2024, UP's passenger vehicle retail sales increased by 13.5 per cent to 2.36 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh dealers expect the demand for Maruti Suzuki's hybrid vehicles to increase following this decision. Last year, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,000 units of Grand Vitara and Invicto.
