Do you know how many four wheelers on the Indian roads are running without insurance? The numbers could take you by surprise. The government and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) have been working to reduce the figures without much success.
But it will be difficult to drive a car without a FASTag and vehicle insurance. All vehicle owners who will apply for vehicle insurance will be required to enter details of their FASTag. From 1 January 2021, all four wheelers including the old ones will be required to have a FASTag.
FASTag is an electronic toll collection system implemented by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) which is, RFID based. As per NHAI, FASTag has proved to be instrumental in easing lives of commuters on National Highways within two months of its nationwide implementation.
This will help the government to know about the vehicles which are running without insurance, easily.

All vehicles will be mandatorily required to have FASTags from 1 January 2021
For third party insurance, it will be mandatory to provide FASTag details
