Honda Amaze Global NCAP rating:  Global NCAP recently conducted crash tests on the Honda Amaze sub-4-metre sedan, revealing a two-star rating for adult occupant protection and a concerning zero-star rating for child occupant protection. This assessment marks one of the final evaluations under Global NCAP's Safer Cars for India initiative as the country transitions to its own Bharat NCAP safety evaluation program.

The Honda Amaze, manufactured in India, had previously secured a commendable four-star rating for adult occupant protection and one star for child occupant protection during its assessment in 2019. However, under the more rigorous and updated protocols, the sedan's rating regressed to two stars for adult protection and plummeted to zero stars for child safety.

According to the Global NCAP report, the evaluation revealed concerning issues such as head contact during frontal impact for both child dummies, significant chest and neck loading for the three-year-old child dummy, and an ejection risk for the 1.5-year-old dummies. Additionally, the absence of three-point seat belts in all seating positions, lack of a passenger airbag disconnection switch, and failures in Child Restraint Systems (CRS) installation contributed to the zero-star child protection rating.

Moreover, deficiencies in adult occupant protection were noted due to the absence of optional side head protection, standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a driver-only seat belt reminder.

Honda Amaze: Safety, pricing, and competitors

Honda recently updated its vehicle lineup in India, including the Amaze, with added safety features such as seat belt reminders for all five seats. It's worth noting that had the updated model undergone testing, the safety rating might have been marginally different. However, the timing of the assessment is curious as the current-generation Amaze is slated for replacement by an all-new model in the near future. Many suggest that Global NCAP could have provided more relevant consumer advice by selecting the Elevate SUV for evaluation.

Aside from the safety features highlighted, the Amaze also offers ABS with EBD, dual frontal airbags, rear parking sensors, a rear multi-view camera, high-speed alert, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. The sedan is competitively priced between Rs 7.93-9.86 lakh (ex-showroom) and faces competition from models like the Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
