In a big development for auto companies, especially Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor and M&M, the Convergence Energy Services (CESL), a newly established subsidiary of state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited, has floated tender to purchase 1 lakh electric three-wheelers.

Now, 1 lakh electric 3-wheelers will be purchased and these electric 3-wheelers will be used for multiple purposes around the world. This is big news for 3-wheelers biggies like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor, M&M, which make electric 3-wheelers in India.  

This is a big business opportunity for electric 3-wheeler manufacturers!  CESL is floating tenders for the purchase of 1 lakh electric 3-wheelers. This will be the first-of-a-kind electric 3-wheelers tender by CESL.  

Auto sector expert and executive editor Swati Khandelwal talks about the reason behind this big tender.  "The government has issued this first-of-a-kind electric 3-wheelers tender. The government has also invited offers from OEMs for purchase of electric 3-Wheeler."

“The response is good! Recently M&M launched its electric three-wheelers, and they are seeing robust sales on that. This is big news for electric 3-wheeler makers. Because if you will compare electric 3-wheeler with conventional 3-wheeler, then there are a lot of benefits from the point of running cost. Almost 45-50 per cent cost is less in using them, “she said.

The government is now focusing more on electric vehicles. And for mobility purposes, last-mile connectivity, 3-wheelers are the best solutions. These 3-wheelers are used for various purposes around the country. For waste dumping, passenger auto, livelihood, and for various other reasons the government has taken this step. The Fame 2 policy that the government had announced, where it has given relaxations and offers, this tender is the best provisioning for electric 3-wheelers.  

Aligning to that, the government is procuring 1 lakh electric 3-wheelers. In fact, I have been told that this is the first step by the government. It is likely that the Centre is expected to float such more tenders because demand is more and in near future, it will increase only.
