From Battery Standard Guidelines, Swapping Policy to EV highways; how is EV infrastructure coming up in India?

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari while addressing the Silicon Valley Dialogue spoke about plan regarding the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in India.

For the preparation of the EVs, the Union Minister put forward three major points - Battery Standard Guidelines in 60 days, swapping policy in three months and battery recycling policy in three months by Environment Ministry, as per Zee Business reporter Ambarish Pandey.

With the executive of the above-mentioned plans, it can be said that  creating a standard for batteries will bring about uniformity. Also,  this will eliminate the difficulties of manufacturing, design and interoperability.  The biggest advantage of the Recycle Policy will be that it can be used to manage the waste of EV and in the coming days, instead of import, recycling can reduce the expenditure by reusing the metal attached to the battery.

In this context, it must be noted that four committees formed to suggest EV to NITI Aayog. The four suggestions put forward by the committees are as follows - Size, Interoperability, Connector and Charging.

The uniform design will make interoperability more easy as well as having the same connector for all types of vehicles, then the difficulties of use will be less. Like nowadays phones have similar connectors, something similar Universal design. Apart from this, the facility of fast charging should be made necessary so that the charging time is minimum and people are attracted towards EVs.

In the context of the EV highways,  the government is constantly making efforts to make travel smooth and easy, with the aim of promoting EVs, now highways will be molded according to EV.  For this, two highways are being developed as a prototype -  Delhi - Jaipur and Delhi - Agra, also 18 NH will be updated soon on the same lines.
