FADA writes to SIAM to upgrade to Market Share Calculation by way of Vahan Registrations - FULL TEXT of letter
It should be noted that during FADA’s 2nd Auto Retail Conclave, Kale in his inaugural speech had requested Wadhera that Auto OEMs should upgrade to actual registrations instead of wholesale dispatches to calculate market share which is a worldwide norm and also a strong need of the Dealer Community.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the apex national body of Automobile Retail, has written to SIAM to upgrade Auto OEM’s market share calculations on basis of actual registrations which is found in Ministry of Road Transport & Highway’s Vahan Platform.
This sentiment was also voiced by many other Senior Industry Captains at both SIAM as well as ACMA events as reporting retail registration numbers will help all the Stake Holders of the Industry in efficient Inventory Management and keep us better prepared in these Dynamic Times.

Subject: Request for OEMs to shift to Market Share Calculation by way of Actual Registrations
Dear Mr. Wadhera,
Greetings from FADA!
Let me begin by first thanking you for taking out time from your busy schedule to grace FADA’s 2nd Auto Retail Conclave held on September 4, 2019 at Hotel ITC Maurya, New Delhi as our Guest of Honour.
On the occasion, in my welcome speech, I had mentioned that FADA for the first time since November 2018 had taken the step in bringing out retail figures when the Sales Slowdown affected almost every region in India with the dealers saddled with huge inventory pile up and that FADA shall continue bringing in Further detailing of the Retail Sales in the days ahead. I had also requested to you to help adopt this as an industry practise being the President of SIAM.
I am writing this letter in follow up, seeking your support for advocating to the entire Auto Industry to shift to Market Share Calculation by way of actual Registrations which is found in Vahan portal of MoRTH in much detail. This is also a norm followed Internationally and I hope you will also appreciate it to be a much needed change for the betterment of the Indian Auto Industry.
This sentiment was also Voiced by Many Senior Industry Captains at both the Conventions held at SIAM and ACMA on the following days. Both Dealers and Component Manufacturers also felt that it would have been easier to predict the ongoing slowdown in Auto Sales if retail numbers were reported, helping all in their inventory management and would have kept all better placed in facing these dynamic times.
FADA has been advocating this from November 2018 and many of our members have also done the same with their respective OEM’s and have received a Positive response of accepting it, if it becomes an industry practise.
Hence, I request you to please use your good offices to impress upon all members of SIAM as well to report retail sales which is now available in VAHAN, instead of factory despatches and graduate to market share calculation of the Industry and of Dealer Partners by Registration Data instead of Wholesale Despatches.
As always, I look forward to your support and understanding!
Warm Regards,
Ashish Harsharaj Kale
President – FADA
