CONFIRMED! Big relief! Battery operated vehicles to be exempted from registration certificate fees in India - Check details
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification to exempt Battery Operated Vehicles from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Tuesday issued a notification to exempt battery-operated vehicles from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate.
"The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification dated 2nd August 2021 to exempt Battery Operated Vehicles from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark. This has been notified to encourage e- mobility," the ministry said in a statement.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 64 and section 211 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), the Central Government also made the following rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, namely:-
1. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (Sixteenth Amendment) Rules, 2021.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, in rule 81, after the proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided further that, for the Battery Operated Vehicles as defined in clause (u) of rule 2, the items given at serial number 4 of the below mentioned table shall be exempted from the payment of fees for the purpose of issue or renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark.”
The government had introduced battery vehicles or electric vehicles in order to control pollution by reducing dependency on Internal Combustion Engine vehicles.
