IRDAI has proposed to increase the motor insurance claims of up to Rs 75,000 without any assessment of losses by a surveyor. If this limit is given a thumbs up than motor insurance claims settled more rapidly without any additional requirement of appointment of surveyors up to a fixed limit. As of now, the motor insurance claims of above Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh for others qualify for the services of insurance surveyors and loss assessors.

IRDAI said, “The enhancement of limits for small claims will help to utilize the manpower available within the insurance company for survey work up to the loss limits so that such small claims are settled expeditiously."

Typically a surveyor gets 30 days to review the filed claim and submit the report for motor insurance claims, which delays the claim processing. However, this proposal by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) looks to enhance loss limits for the appointment of surveyors in motor insurance to above Rs 75,000 and Rs 1,50,000 for all others.

The new proposal suggests that the customers can self-declare in case of motor accidents up to Rs 75,000, and for non-motor claims up to Rs 1.5 lakh. The proposal also makes it possible for online licensing and renewals for surveyors with digitization and drafts revision of the fee structure and duties and responsibilities of surveyors.
