Bajaj Auto said on Thursday that its total sales stood at 2,28,401 vehicles in the domestic market last month. That was more than double compared with sales of 1,12,308 vehicles in the corresponding period a year ago. Sales of two-wheelers as well as commercial vehicles saw growth of more than 100 per cent.

Bajaj Auto shares — traded on the bourses with the symbol BAJAJ-AUTO — gained as much as 1.7 per cent to Rs 4,642.5 apiece during the session on BSE after the release of monthly sales numbers.  

Exports, however, declined 22.5 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 1,26,747 vehicles in May 2023, according to a regulatory filing.

Bajaj Auto two-wheeler sales

Sales of two-wheelers in the domestic market came in at 1,94,811 vehicles, as against 96,102 vehicles a year ago. 

Two-wheeler exports decreased 26.4 per cent to 1,12,885 units, according to the filing.

Bajaj Auto CV sales

Sales of commercial vehicles more than doubled to 33,590 units in May from 16,206 units in the year-ago period, Bajaj Auto said. 

Commercial vehicle exports grew 36.4 per cent to 13,862 units. 

Total sales

Bajaj Auto's total sales — comprising domestic market sales as well as exports of two-wheelers and commercial vehicles — increased 28.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis to 3,55,148 units, according to the filing.
