Auto major Mahindra has launched a more affordable version of XUV300 diesel-AMT in the mid-spec W6 variant at a price of Rs 9.9 lakh. The W6 diesel-AMT variant, which is far cheaper than W8 and W8(O) diesel-AMT variants, priced from Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom price of Mumbai), comes with safety features like electronic stability control and hill assist, according to available reports. Notably, the AMT comes at a premium of Rs 49,000 over the manual transmission option.

Sporting the AMT gearbox like W8 and W8(O) variants, the new 6-speed automated manual unit is paired to the same the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 117hp and 300Nm of peak torque, according to AutoCar, adding that the gearbox is quick enough to respond and drops down a single or couple of gears when more power is asked for.

Although the mid-spec W6 variant misses out on features like LED DRLs, cruise control, auto AC, and front and rear fog lamps, the new version, however, boasts of dual front airbags, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and steering-mounted audio controls among others.

The AMT-equipped W6 variant comes with safety kit such as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and hill-start assist to the manual version's list, said AutoCar report, adding that creature comforts on the W6 manual and AMT versions are identical with features like roof rails, a rear spoiler, steering-mounted controls for the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, four speakers, remote central locking along with follow-me-home headlamps.

The Mahindra XUV300 W6 AMT is expected to compete against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in mid-spec VDi (Rs 8.93 lakh) and ZDi (Rs 9.55 lakh) form and Tata Nexon in the lower-spec XMA variant (Rs 9.05 lakh) if compared to other diesel-automatic compact SUVs being sold in the country.
