It’s not summer yet but car market is already sizzling this April. Riding piggyback on a bumper 2017-18, automakers have a treat in store for car buyers. From an all new Bentley Continental to a jazzed up Honda Amaze, there is something for every segment. Then there’s the free-spirited Ford FreeStyle, free from the shackles of a segment.

Is it a Figo in disguise?
To an extent, yes. The platform is that of a Figo. But, in a crossover avatar.However if you look closer you can see the updated design which hints at a new look for the Ford Figo & Aspire very soon. The new grille looks promising and is a visual differentiator. Scuff plates, black cladding & usable roofrails are some other design highlights. But what stands out is the rear treatment with a new set of tailights and bumper. The FreeStyle also has a massive ground clearance of 190mm… so it is not just about cosmetic changes!!

The Interiors
FreeStyle insides are quite similar to what we have already seen in the updated EcoSport. A 6.5 inch touchscreen and Ford SYNC 3.0 compatible with both Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The touchscreen is responsive & gives a modern feel to the entire front facia. There is no notable change in the instrument cluster design, which is a little disappointing. The cabin is spacious & the driver gets a commanding position with a fantastic front view. Ford gives the front passengers enough storage spaces but scrimps on it for the rear-benchers.

First Drive
The FreeStyle sports a revised version of the petrol and diesel engines offered earlier by Ford. We tested only the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which offers 96 PS of power and churns out a respectable 120 Nm torque. Class-leading ground clearance & soft suspension setting helps clear the bumps quite impressively.

Verdict
As a package the FreeStyle is impressive but as always it all boils down to the price which we feel should be limited to a little more than the premium hatchbacks. A perfect option for those who want something different and still be safe.
