The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Thursday handed over a cheque of Rs 250 crore to the Maharashtra State Roads Development Corporation (MSRDC) for land acquisition of Samruddhi Highway that will connect Mumbai with Nagpur.

Industries Minister Subhash Desai handed over the cheque to Public Works Minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Sahyadri gueshouse in south Mumbai.

"Various institutions are making secondary nature of amount available for the land acquisition of the Nagpur Mumbai Samruddhi Highway.

"The MIDC has already advanced an amount of Rs 1,000 crore to the MSRDC. It has further made available secondary funds worth Rs 250 crore to speed up the work of Samruddhi Highway," a government release stated.

The 700-km expressway will connect the two key cities of Maharashtra.

The Rs 49,247-crore venture, a pet project of Fadnavis, also envisages the development of various nodes along the expressway.
