My Aadhaar card is 10 years old; how I can update address and other details?
UIDAI has mandated updating UID details after 10 years to ensure accurate data and a hassle-free authentication process.
Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number, has become one of the most important documents in India. It is used as a photo ID proof for almost every formal proceeding or documentation. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has advised citizens to update their Aadhaar details every 10 years. This has been recommended to ensure accurate data and a hassle-free authentication process.
In a tweet, the UIDAI said, "If your Aadhaar was created more than ten years ago and has not been updated, you are requested to re-verify it by uploading your 'Proof of Identity' and 'Proof of Address' documents. Online uploading fee is ₹25 for online and ₹50 for offline."
One can update their Aadhaar details both offline and online. While citizens can update their Aadhaar details online through the myAadhaar portal, one can also visit the nearest Aadhaar centre for the same.
Who needs to update their Aadhaar?
- Those who were under 5 years old at the time of initial enrollment need to re-enrol themselves after turning 5.
- Children between the ages of 5 abd15 at the time of enrollment also need to furnish all the biometrics for updates after turning 15.
- Those above the age of 15 at the time of enrollment need to update their biometric data every 10 years.
- Any sort of events, including accidents or diseases, leading to biometric exceptions may require an update.
How to update the address on the Aadhaar card?
While the UIDAI portal only allows for updating addresses on the Aadhaar card, the update of other details such as name, date of birth, photo, and more can be done at the Aadhaar enrollment centre.
