Energy Sector Update
Energy stocks were in action on Wednesday after a committee headed by Kirit Parekh submitted its recommendations to the governent on gas pricing formula. In chat with Zee Business, Parekh said that ther are 12-13 types of gas fields in India and prices are different for different fields. The committee has simplified the pricing formula. He said that the main probelm was with respect to APM gas (Administerd Price Mechanism) which were being produced by ONGC and OIL from their fields. The fields were allocated without any royalty and profit sharing. The government has 55-57 per cent stakes in these fields and people were given gas at very subsidised rates from these fields, he added. The committe has suggested a floor price of USD 4/mBtu and the maximum price at USD 6.5/mmBtu.The recommendation has been made that the upper price shall be increased by USD 0.5 every year, he further said. This is with regards to APM Gas.
The committee has also recommended bringing natural gas under the ambit of GST.
