Flipkart announces Superphone challenge; here’s what it is

Home grown e-commerce company, Flipkart has started a ‘Superphone challenge’ contest in which the company has unveiled 12 ‘superphones.’

The contest which begins today, July 24 will be open till midnight of August 4, the company said.

“Participants are invited to compare one of the Flipkart best selling smartphones with any of the top selling smartphones as per Quarter 1 2017 IDC report,” the company said.

In the IDC report Samsung’s market share in India was the highest among all other brands at 28%.

Customers who have bought a ‘challenger smartphone’ to Flipkart’s superphone from any multi-brand retail store in India will be compared. The company said only one phone needs to be identified from a particular price band for comparison on Flipkart site.

“Such smartphone is required to be available in leading multi-brand large offline retail stores having more than 5 outlets in each city and be present in at least 20 cities across India. Such smartphone shall be designated as the 'Challenger Smartphone.' You should have purchased the Challenger Smartphone from the select large format retail stores during the Challenge Period only. Smartphones available in exclusive brand outlets or small retail shops will not be eligible for this Challenge,” the terms and conditions on the contest read.

The superphones as listed on Flipkart’s website are as follows

• Moto C Plus
• Micromax Evok Note (Champagne, 32GB)
• Panasonic P85
• Lenovo K5 Note (4GB|64GB)
• Redmi Note 4 (4GB|64GB)
• Lenovo K5 Note (4GB|32GB)
• Samsung Galaxy On5 (Black, 8GB)
• Lenovo K6 Power (4GB|32GB)
• Lenovo K6 Power (3GB| 32GB)

These phones have been listed as the ‘best selling phones’ on Flipkart.

Customers who wish to participate in the contest have to find a phone in their budget, compare it with the superphones. If your phone is better than Flipkart’s 12 superphones in four out of five features, Flipkart will pay for it themselves.

"You need to identify any one phone from a particular price band for comparison on Flipkart site only and available at Flipkart's superphone challenge store," the company said. 

The six features listed by the company for phone comparison are – RAM, ROM, camera, battery, fingerprint scanner and screen type.

“Upon winning the Challenge, you shall win a gift card equivalent to the price of the smartphone verified as superior to the Superphone, sold on the Flipkart website,” the company said.

Under eligibility and disqualification conditions the company said customers need to have a valid email ID at least six months prior to the challenged and a registered active Flipkart account ID.

“If you fulfill all eligibility criteria listed in T&C, then you can send your claim, proof of ID (valid govt ID card - Aadhar, Passport, Driving license), comparison entry and proof of purchase (bill in your name, invoice in your name) of the Challenger Smartphone within the Challenge Period to Flipkart at superphonechallenge@flipkart.com through your registered email ID. The entries should clearly compare the specifications of the Flipkart Superphone and the Challenger Smartphone in either a paragraph or tabular format and describe why the Challenger Smartphone is superior,” Flipkart said.

What happens if you win?

"Only winners of the challenge will be contacted by Flipkart with the details of their E-Gift Voucher. The EGV can be redeemed on any purchase from Flipkart in line with EGV redemption terms. Winners will be contacted by Flipkart directly via email or phone, within 30 days of the Challenge Period," Flipkart said.
